Riot Platforms Sells 4,300 BTC Amid Lower Prices and Rising Hash Rate
Riot Platforms, one of the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miners, made significant moves in its second quarter earnings report. The company sold 4,300 BTC to fund operations and its expanding data center business, a substantial portion of its total holdings.
This sale was necessary due to lower average Bitcoin prices and a rising global network hash rate, which partially offset growth in Riot's own operating hash rate.
Riot still holds 11,380 BTC, worth close to $666 million at the June 30 price of $58,527. However, 5,821 BTC is currently pledged as collateral.
