Riot Platforms Sells 9,665 BTC, Deploys $12.8M in NYDIG Loan
Riot Platforms, one of the largest Bitcoin mining companies in the US, has sold 9,665 BTC at an average price of $75,785 during the first half of 2025. This sale generated approximately $732 million in proceeds for the company.
The sales are part of Riot's strategy to liquidate mined Bitcoin and fund its operations and growth. The decision to sell aligns with the company's focus on generating cash flow to cover operational costs, including energy expenses and debt obligations.
Riot has been investing heavily in infrastructure, such as its Whinstone facility in Texas, which is one of the largest Bitcoin mining sites in North America. The sale also suggests that Riot is using a disciplined approach to treasury management, locking in profits during a period when Bitcoin traded in a range of $60,000 to $70,000.
In addition to selling its BTC, Riot has deposited 200 BTC, valued at roughly $12.86 million, with NYDIG, a prominent crypto lender. This move indicates that the company is using its Bitcoin holdings as collateral for loans, allowing it to access liquidity without diluting shareholders.
