Riot Platforms Signs Massive AI Data Center Lease Agreement for $9.1 Billion in Revenue
Riot Platforms has signed a massive lease agreement for an AI data center that's expected to generate $9.1 billion in revenue over the next 20 years.
The project will require construction costs ranging from $2.1 to $2.3 billion, with 80% to 90% financed through long-term project loans. Riot Platforms plans to bridge the remaining equity-funding gap by selling its Bitcoin holdings, having already raised $732.5 million by selling 9,665 Bitcoins in the first half of 2026.
Rental payments won't begin until the data center becomes operational in 2027, meaning the company will rely on ongoing Bitcoin sales to offset short-term funding pressures before long-term high returns materialize.
