Riot Recovers Up to 1,547 BTC as Bitcoin Price Rebounds
Riot Platforms, one of the largest US Bitcoin mining companies, may be able to recover up to 1,547 BTC from collateral it pledged as part of a loan agreement with Coinbase. The potential return comes after a rebound in Bitcoin's price, which has improved the value of the collateral.
At the start of this year, Riot initially pledged 3,977 BTC to secure the loan from Coinbase. As Bitcoin's price fell in February, the company added an additional 1,825 BTC to its pledge, bringing the total to over 5,800 BTC.
The loan-to-value ratio has decreased to about 44% as a result of Bitcoin's recent price increase to approximately $78,000. According to the loan terms, Riot is now eligible to reclaim an estimated 1,159 to 1,547 BTC from Coinbase, but it remains unconfirmed whether the company has formally requested this return.
If Riot is able to recover the excess BTC, it would strengthen its balance sheet and provide additional liquidity for operations or expansion. This move could also signal confidence in Bitcoin's price stability, potentially influencing investor sentiment towards the mining sector.
