Ripple Abandons XLP Ledger Cross-Chain Bridge Amid Lack of Demand

Ripple has recommended that the XRP Ledger community withdraw the XLS-38 cross-chain bridge amendment, which aimed to enable native cross-chain bridging for the network. The company cited a lack of developer interest and demand for the amendment's intended functions as the reason behind this decision.

The original goal behind XLS-38 was to allow seamless asset transfers between the XRPL mainnet and various custom sidechains, including private, permissioned, and experimental networks. However, Ripple has now chosen the Axelar network as the bridge solution for the EVM Sidechain due to its robust interoperability capabilities with over 50 blockchain networks.

Ripple emphasized that it does not have the authority to unilaterally remove XLS-38 from the XRP Ledger and that any withdrawal must proceed through the network's established amendment process, requiring broad consensus among validators and community stakeholders. The company is open to reconsidering its decision if developers can present compelling use cases that demonstrate significant community value.
