Ripple Admits Blockchain Design Flaw Led to Stablecoin Fragmentation

Ripple's Chief Technology Officer Emeritus David Schwartz has acknowledged that an early design flaw in blockchain technology led to fragmented stablecoin payments. This issue arose from assuming all USD stablecoins would share the same currency code 'USD', resulting in confusion for users with multiple tokens such as USDT and USDC.

Schwartz suggests reforming payment systems by separating global asset identifiers from user-defined trust settings, allowing users to decide which stablecoin they accept as real USD. He emphasizes that until wallets improve to link issuers with currency codes flexibly, stablecoin payments will remain complex and inconvenient for mainstream users.
