Ripple Aims for Quantum-Resistant XRP Ledger by 2028
Ripple has outlined a four-stage plan to secure its XRP Ledger against quantum computing threats. The initiative aims to achieve complete quantum resilience by 2028, following recent Google research that demonstrated a potential breakthrough in elliptic curve cryptography.
The first phase is an emergency response protocol that can be activated if quantum threats materialize before the upgrade is completed. The second phase is currently active and involves evaluating NIST-certified post-quantum solutions, including ML-DSA and Dilithium protocols. Ripple is working with Project Eleven to implement these algorithms.
A significant consideration in this process is algorithm efficiency, as Dilithium signatures require approximately 40 times more data than current implementations. This could impact transaction throughput and storage requirements if not optimized carefully.
