Ripple-Backed Evernorth Faces Uncertain Future as Listings Loom
Evernorth, a digital asset treasury company backed by Ripple and others, is set to list on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN. The company holds a position of roughly 473 million XRP tokens at an average cost near $2.54 per token. However, with the current price of XRP trading near $1.10, the unrealized deficit is above 50%. This means that if Evernorth lists as planned, its shareholders will be holding onto a significant loss.
The company's structure allows its SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) shareholders to choose between redeeming their shares for cash at trust value or accepting equity in the combined entity. Given the current market conditions and the substantial unrealized deficit, most institutional SPAC holders are likely to opt for redemption over equity.
If a large number of shareholders choose redemption, it could significantly shrink the cash available to Evernorth, making it difficult for the company to raise capital and grow its position in XRP. This would be detrimental to the token itself, as a listed treasury vehicle is essential for providing liquidity and supporting institutional participation.
