Ripple Builds Bridge Between TradFi and DeFi Amid Institutional Growth
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse is positioning his company as a bridge between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Garlinghouse pointed to Ripple's 75 licenses worldwide as evidence that regulated financial services and crypto can coexist.
He also cited a U.S. court ruling that XRP itself is not a security, reinforcing Ripple's push for clearer regulatory distinctions between digital assets and the transactions involving them. This strategy could become one of Ripple's biggest advantages as banks and institutions increasingly seek regulated access to blockchain.
Ripple has seen significant growth in institutional adoption, with Garlinghouse expecting the company to post a record year, with revenue projected to more than double year over year despite softer conditions across the broader crypto market. The company's aggressive acquisition strategy reflects this ambition, with $2.5 billion in acquisitions last year and $3 billion in shareholder tender offers over the past two years.
Ripple's recent acquisitions of Hidden Road and GTreasury give it exposure to around $16 trillion in financial activity, making it a major player in the industry. Garlinghouse also expects larger deals and more consolidation as the market moves through its downturn.
