Ripple CEO Seated at Regulatory Table with CFTC Appointment
The photo of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse standing beside President Donald Trump has been circulating in the XRP community, raising questions about how much Ripple's position in Washington has changed.
But while the photo may be symbolically powerful, the real story is that Garlinghouse now has a formal seat at the regulatory table. He was appointed to the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee alongside executives from Coinbase, Nasdaq, and other major financial and crypto companies.
The committee advises the regulator on issues spanning technology, law, policy, and financial markets. This development comes as Washington debates the CLARITY Act, legislation intended to establish clearer federal jurisdiction over digital assets.
Garlinghouse has repeatedly supported moving the legislation forward, describing regulatory clarity as important for the next stage of U.S. crypto development. The CFTC officially appointed Garlinghouse in February, and its charter was renewed on Aug. 19.
