Ripple Delivers $300K Aid to Nepal and Tibet Flood Relief Efforts

Ripple has donated $300,000 to aid relief efforts in Nepal and Tibet following devastating floods that began on August 26. The funds will be split between World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps, two organizations already working with communities affected by the disaster.

The Ripple donation focuses on emergency meals, safe drinking water, and sanitation services, which have been severely impacted due to transportation and utility network failures. World Central Kitchen has activated restaurant partners in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, providing meals to those in need, while Mercy Corps is assessing needs with local authorities and aid groups.

The floods have had a catastrophic impact on the region, with over 600 reported deaths and more than 2,000 people missing. The disaster has also destroyed at least 18 schools and damaged another 20, as well as four health facilities. UNICEF is requesting $17.2 million for emergency aid, including health, nutrition, sanitation, education, protection, and early recovery support.

The Ripple donation marks an extension of the company's existing partnerships with World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps. Since 2020, Ripple has worked with World Central Kitchen to test blockchain payments and stablecoin-based tools for humanitarian assistance. The company has also funded a Mercy Corps Ventures drought project in Kenya, which used satellite data to monitor vegetation and automate emergency aid.
