Ripple Engineer Questions FXRP Bridge Security as Flare Co-Founder Pushes Back
Ripple engineer Neil Hartner has raised concerns about the security of Flare's FXRP bridge, which represents over 155 million XRP on a separate network from the XRP Ledger.
The dispute centers around what protects XRP once it is represented on Flare, a programmable network built for smart-contract applications. Hartner questioned the system's security assumptions, while Flare co-founder Hugo Philion defended its design by pointing to collateral, escrow, and verification mechanisms that support FXRP.
The disagreement highlights the risks involved in using blockchain bridges, which have become frequent targets for exploits due to their complex architecture and multiple points of failure. The stakes are high, with over 155 million FXRP already minted, representing a significant amount of XRP on Flare.
