Ripple Escrow Mechanism Fails to Move XRP Price
The XRP circulating supply is approximately 62 billion tokens out of a total of 100 billion. Each month, Ripple unlocks 1 billion XRP from its escrow reserves but typically re-locks 600 to 800 million tokens, adding a net 200 to 300 million tokens to circulation.
This predictable release of tokens is public data and has been largely priced in by the market. As a result, it exerts minimal direct pressure on the price of XRP.
Ripple's escrow mechanism is designed to provide a gradual release of tokens over several years. However, this process does not represent a sudden supply shock, as the schedule for token unlock is known years in advance.
