Ripple Joins UK Taskforce to Tokenize £33 Billion Repo Market
Ripple is joining a high-level UK government taskforce to modernize wholesale markets using blockchain technology. The initiative, led by the UK Treasury's Wholesale Digital Markets Taskforce, aims to integrate distributed ledger technology into institutional finance, with a focus on tokenizing the massive repo market.
The effort has attached a potential value of £33 billion and projects it could generate an additional £14 billion in annual tax revenue by 2035. A live pilot for a tokenized repo system is being targeted for spring 2027.
Ripple's seat at the table places the company in a position to help shape regulatory and operational standards that banks, funds, and market infrastructure providers may follow for years.
