Ripple Prepares for Quantum Computing Threat with Multi-Stage Plan

Ripple is preparing for the possibility that quantum computers could break the cryptography securing XRP Ledger wallets and transactions. The company has outlined a multi-stage roadmap to make XRPL fully post-quantum ready by 2028, with an emergency migration path in case advances arrive faster than expected.

The plan does not indicate an immediate security crisis but rather a long-term infrastructure upgrade. Ripple is treating quantum resistance as a necessary step to ensure the network's integrity as it grows and becomes increasingly important for payments and tokenized assets.

XRPL recently surpassed 5 billion transactions, and activity around real-world assets has accelerated, making future cryptographic resilience more relevant. The issue extends beyond XRP, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, banks, and other financial infrastructure also relying on pre-quantum cryptography.
