Ripple Prepares XRP Ledger for Quantum Threat with Four-Stage Plan
Ripple is preparing for the potential threat of quantum computers to its XRP Ledger. The company has outlined a four-stage roadmap to make XRPL post-quantum ready by 2028, with an emergency migration path in case advances arrive faster than expected.
The issue is not imminent, but rather a long-term infrastructure upgrade that needs to begin before the threat becomes practical. 'Q-Day' refers to the point when a sufficiently capable quantum computer could defeat widely used public-key cryptography, allowing an attacker to derive private keys and gain control over digital assets.
Ripple's roadmap begins with assessing vulnerabilities and testing quantum-resistant algorithms recommended by NIST. The company is also working with Project Eleven on validator testing, benchmarking, and a prototype post-quantum custody wallet.
