Ripple Races Against Quantum Threat with Four-Stage XRP Ledger Security Plan
Ripple is taking proactive steps to strengthen the quantum security of its XRP Ledger. Engineers at Ripple are working on a four-stage roadmap designed to protect the ledger from potential threats posed by quantum computers, which could break current cryptography and reveal private keys.
The plan involves assessing vulnerabilities, testing new cryptography, running old and new security systems in parallel, and having an emergency response ready. Testing of NIST-standard algorithms like ML-DSA and Dilithium is already underway, alongside Project Eleven's research on quantum security.
The effort aims to ensure the XRP Ledger can evolve well before a potential threat from quantum computing becomes real, without disrupting the systems, assets, and users that depend on it. Ripple's senior director of engineering, Ayo Akinyele, emphasized the importance of preparedness, stating that AI is driving more automation and increasingly autonomous economic activity, while quantum computing is forcing the industry to think further ahead about how those systems are secured.
