Ripple Scam Alert: Fake Announcement Flags Phishing Attempt
A fake announcement purporting to be from Ripple has been flagged by XRPL Foundation Director of Community Hussein Zangana (Vet), who urged users to stay vigilant.
The scam attempt, which was identified on social media, claimed that Ripple was launching 'XRP Holder Tiers' and directed users to a fraudulent website to claim XRP badges. This tactic is commonly used by scammers to lure unsuspecting victims into divulging sensitive information or connecting their wallets to unauthorized sites.
XRP Ledger Foundation Director of Community Hussein Zangana (Vet) confirmed the fake announcement as entirely a scam, advising users never to click links to fraudulent websites nor connect their wallets, and warning against entering seed phrases that could result in XRP token theft. Ripple or the XRP Ledger does not require holders to claim badges or register for perks.
This incident highlights a growing trend of scammers impersonating major blockchain organizations to mislead users, potentially putting their assets at risk. The XRPL developer Wietse Wind recently warned of fake tokens, stating that there is no 'Xaman token,' while Firelight, a liquid staking protocol for XRP built on the Flare Network, cautioned against fake accounts claiming to represent the project.
