Ripple-SEC Case Nears Conclusion as Judge Prepares Final Judgment
The long-running legal battle between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is nearing its conclusion. A final judgment on penalties and injunctions is expected this week, according to legal eagles James Murphy and Fred Rispoli.
Judge Analisa Torres has been presiding over the case, which began in December 2020 when the SEC accused Ripple of selling unregistered securities. Ripple countered that XRP is a digital currency like Bitcoin.
Torres previously ruled that XRP sales on exchanges are non-security, but institutional trades were classified as securities. Pro-XRP lawyer Bill Morgan believes settlement talks have been premature and would not be beneficial to either side.
Former SEC lawyer Marc Fagel agrees, citing the potential loss of appeal rights and a $2 billion fine for the SEC if they lose. Meanwhile, XRP's price has surged by 27.8% in 30 days, with traders taking profits and Network Realized Profit/Loss stats climbing since July 12.
