Ripple Sees Institutional Adoption of Tokenized Assets Accelerate
Ripple's President Monica Long has stated that financial institutions are moving from pilot programs to production environments for tokenized assets. This shift is attributed to Ripple's strategic investments in ZILO and Licuido, which will add transfer agency, token issuance, and collateral mobility tools to its capital markets infrastructure on the XRP Ledger.
According to Long, this transition marks a significant milestone, as institutions are now using tokenized assets for real-world applications. The Aviva Investors' launch of its first tokenized fund share class on the XRP Ledger in July is seen as a clear example of this shift, with eligible investors able to access it through approved digital wallets.
The investments will help Ripple address practical gaps between creating a token and using it in regulated financial markets. RLUSD, Ripple's dollar stablecoin, will be used as the cash side of delivery versus payment transactions, reducing settlement risk and enabling tokenized fund units to become eligible for borrowing, lending, and margin workflows.
While the investments have broadened Ripple's institutional offering, several details remain unavailable, including the amount invested in each company, resulting ownership stakes, revenue arrangements, and deployment dates. The next measurable developments will include additional tokenized fund launches, named institutional customers, and transaction data showing how often RLUSD is used for delivery versus payment.
