Ripple has outlined its plan to make the XRP Ledger compatible with post-quantum signatures by 2028. This involves testing, a coexistence period between old and new systems, and a global network migration.

The company will go through four phases: providing an emergency procedure in case of sudden breakdown of current cryptography; evaluating risks, post-quantum algorithms, and their performance consequences; making current and post-quantum signatures coexist on test networks; and finally transitioning to the new system.

Ripple is currently testing various models with Project Eleven and evaluating several post-quantum algorithms recommended by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The company wants to keep flexibility in case a weakness appears in any algorithm chosen.
