Ripple Ties with Visa in Transaction Volume, But Most Trades Stay Off-Chain
Ripple's CEO Brad Garlinghouse says his company processed a staggering $16 trillion in transactions last year, placing it on par with payment giant Visa. However, only a tiny fraction of this volume - just 0.1% - moved on-chain through XRP, stablecoins, or other blockchain settlement methods.
This minuscule share represents around $160 billion in value, and Garlinghouse wants to grow it as overall volume expands. He believes that moving more transactions on-chain will benefit customers by reducing costs, increasing speed, and providing greater certainty.
Ripple's goal is to increase its on-chain transaction share while maintaining its massive transaction scale. Garlinghouse also notes that both XRP and stablecoins are having record years, with the $16 trillion figure expected to grow even higher in 2026.
