Ripple Unlocks 1 Billion XRP Amid Ongoing Price Momentum
Ripple unlocked 1 billion XRP from its escrow accounts in September, as part of its regular monthly release. This move follows Ripple's established escrow system, which allows up to 1 billion XRP to become available at the beginning of each month.
The 1 billion XRP was released through three separate transactions, consisting of 500 million XRP, 400 million XRP, and 100 million XRP. However, it's essential to note that this does not necessarily mean 1 billion XRP entered the market immediately.
Ripple has historically re-escrowed a significant portion of the XRP released each month, which means the actual amount reaching the broader market can be substantially smaller than the headline monthly unlock. As of August 31, approximately 32.28 billion XRP remained locked in Ripple's on-ledger escrow, and after the September release, this balance fell to about 31.28 billion XRP.
