Ripple Unlocks One Billion XRP Amid Market Fragility
Ripple is about to unlock one billion XRP tokens on September 1st, but this could put pressure on the market. The company has been releasing one billion XRP each month since 2017 as part of its contractual routine.
The amount released is not entirely available for circulation, however. Between 600 and 800 million XRP are immediately re-locked in new forward contracts, limiting the actual increase in circulating supply to between 200 and 400 million XRP.
Ripple uses these funds to support its operations, including On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) services, institutional partnerships, and ecosystem development. The net monthly contribution of 200 to 400 million XRP is relatively modest compared to the daily trading volume of over one billion dollars on major exchanges.
