Ripple Unveils Four-Stage Plan to Quantum-Proothe XRP Ledger
Ripple's engineers are working to strengthen XRP quantum security years ahead of the expected threat from quantum computers. According to a four-stage plan, they aim to protect the XRP Ledger before 'Q-Day' arrives.
The plan includes assessing vulnerabilities and testing quantum-resistant cryptography, running old and new security systems in parallel, and keeping an emergency response ready. Ripple is working with Project Eleven to evaluate NIST-standard post-quantum algorithms, ML-DSA and Dilithium, which are being tested alongside the existing system.
Ripple aims for full quantum readiness by 2028. The four-stage plan is a long-term infrastructure project rather than a rushed patch job. 'The goal is not to wait until quantum computing becomes an immediate threat,' said Ayo Akinyele, Ripple's senior director of engineering. 'It is to make sure critical financial infrastructure can evolve well before that point without disrupting the systems, assets and users that depend on it.'
Ripple has a built-in advantage in this transition, as the XRP Ledger allows users to replace keys controlling an account without changing the account itself. This feature could make future migration smoother.
