Ripple Unveils Quantum-Resistant Roadmap for XRP Ledger
Ripple is taking steps to ensure its XRP Ledger (XRPL) remains secure in a post-quantum future. The company has outlined a four-stage roadmap to transition XRPL to quantum-resistant signatures by 2028.
The first phase involves creating an emergency 'Q-Day' recovery plan, which would allow XRPL to stop accepting existing signature standards and move funds towards post-quantum-secure accounts if classical cryptography becomes unsafe.
Ripple is also exploring zero-knowledge proofs that could help users prove ownership without exposing vulnerable keys. In the second phase, the company will assess XRPL's exposure and test NIST-recommended post-quantum algorithms.
The current roadmap then moves into phase three in 2026, with candidate post-quantum signatures running alongside existing elliptic-curve signatures on Devnet. Ripple is also examining quantum-resistant approaches for zero-knowledge proofs and privacy-related features.
