Ripple Unveils Stablecoin Rules Amid Institutional Interest in RLUSD
Ripple has clarified the rules surrounding its stablecoin, RLUSD, in an effort to assuage concerns from institutions evaluating the token for payments and settlement.
The digital asset infrastructure company outlined how different types of licenses, including money transmitter licenses, state trust charters, and federal supervision, affect the backing and redemption of dollar-backed tokens like RLUSD.
Ripple emphasized that the quality of reserve funds and redemption arrangements play a significant role in determining the risks associated with stablecoins.
The company's subsidiary, Standard Custody & Trust Company, issued RLUSD under a New York Department of Financial Services limited-purpose trust charter, which includes segregated reserves and independent attestations to examine reserve disclosures.
Ripple received conditional approval to establish Ripple National Trust Bank in December 2025, with the proposed federal bank expected to manage RLUSD's segregated reserves on a directed basis and perform collateral trustee services for holders.
