Ripple Wins Partial Victory Against SEC, But XRP Price Remains Range-Bound
Ripple secured its first major court win in July 2023 when U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres issued a partial summary judgment in the SEC's case against the company.
The ruling found that XRP sales on public cryptocurrency exchanges to retail investors did not constitute securities transactions under the Howey test, but Ripple's direct institutional sales of XRP to sophisticated investors qualified as unregistered securities offerings.
Despite the favorable outcome, XRP has not delivered the explosive gains many investors expected. Much of the legal victory had already been priced in, with the token rallying sharply after the July 2023 ruling and again when the SEC abandoned its appeal.
XRP's price is now tied to adoption, network growth, and broader market sentiment rather than courtroom developments.
