Ripple's $1 Billion XRP Unlock Ties to CLARITY Act Vote
Ripple's upcoming XRP escrow unlock on September 1 is expected to attract market attention as US lawmakers prepare for a key vote on the CLARITY Act. The act aims to provide greater legal clarity in the crypto space, which has raised questions about how Ripple uses XRP released from escrow.
The registration statement submitted by the Cryptex Digital Market Cap ETF assigns XRP a 4.88% weighting and cites information attributed to Ripple suggesting that passage of the CLARITY Act could allow more XRP to be distributed to meet off-ledger liquidity demand involving stablecoin and foreign exchange trading pairs.
Ripple's escrow system currently permits a maximum of 1 billion XRP to become available each month. However, not all 1 billion tokens immediately enter circulation or reach exchanges as Ripple has historically returned unused XRP to escrow under new time locks while allocating other tokens for business and operational purposes.
