Ripple's Alderoty Leads Charge for CLARITY Act as Senate Vote Looms
Ripple's Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty is leading the charge to pass the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clarity on digital asset classification and regulatory oversight. With a crucial vote scheduled for September 15 in the Senate, Alderoty has reached out to senators who oppose or remain undecided, urging them to meet with ordinary cryptocurrency holders before casting their votes.
The vote is seen as a bellwether for the bill's chances of becoming law. If passed, it would allow the Senate to proceed towards debate and potential amendments. However, reaching 60 votes, which requires bipartisan support, will be a significant challenge. The CLARITY Act has already cleared several hurdles, including approval by the House of Representatives in July 2025 with significant bipartisan support.
The bill's success would provide greater regulatory clarity for the industry, which has long complained about 'regulation by enforcement.' Alderoty argues that congressional legislation is more durable than agency-created rules. If Congress fails to act, the SEC and CFTC will continue writing crypto rules, but legislation passed by Congress is generally harder for future administrations to reverse.
