Ripple's Monthly XRP Unlocks Continue Without Sudden Disruption
Ripple's monthly XRP unlock cycle continues to draw attention in the market. On September 1, the San Francisco-based blockchain company released 1 billion XRP tokens valued at approximately $1.38 billion.
This significant token movement initially raised concerns about a potential bearish event for XRP. However, observers note that the unlocking of tokens does not necessarily translate into an equivalent amount of new XRP entering circulation due to Ripple's escrow system.
The escrow system brings predictability to monthly token supplies, allowing up to 1 billion XRP to be unlocked each month. But in reality, a portion of these tokens are frequently re-escrowed into new contracts rather than hitting the market immediately.
In this case, Ripple sent 700 million XRP straight back into escrow contracts after the latest release, leaving only 300 million XRP circulating outside the newly created escrows. This reduction in immediate supply impact has become a norm for the XRP market as traders have grown accustomed to Ripple's regular monthly unlocks.
