Ripple's XRP Stumbles Amid SWIFT's Resilience
Ripple's XRP faces significant challenges in disrupting global payments, as it aims to carve out a share of the $905 billion remittance market. The company's On-Demand Liquidity handled roughly $15 billion in 2024, approximately 0.01% of global cross-border flows.
The current landscape shows that Ripple's value proposition targets a different layer entirely: the settlement and liquidity infrastructure underneath SWIFT's messages. SWIFT is a messaging and compliance network embedded in 11,500+ institutions across 200+ countries; it does not hold funds, clear transactions, or settle payments.
SWIFT has a formidable scale, with 53.3 million messages per day, averaging more than 11 billion annually. Its compliance infrastructure creates a nearly impregnable moat, making it difficult for any competitor to replicate the messaging network and compliance superstructure.
