Ripple's XRP Supply Cycle: 1 Billion Tokens Released, 700 Million Re-Locked

Ripple's monthly XRP supply cycle is in the spotlight after 1 billion tokens were released from escrow on Sept. 1.

The release was part of a scheduled transaction, with 500 million, 400 million, and 100 million XRP tokens unlocked over several hours.

However, some social media posts claimed that the entire 1 billion XRP was re-locked, which is not accurate. Onchain records show that 700 million XRP, worth about $952 million, were placed back into new escrow contracts after being released.

A separate viral post claiming a $6,000 XRP scenario has sparked debate among investors, but this prediction relies on extremely aggressive assumptions about institutional transaction volume and token velocity.
