RippleX Touts XRP as 'Killer Use Case' for Institutional Credit
RippleX's Head of Product, Jazzi Cooper, has highlighted the potential for XRP to be used as collateral in institutional lending. In a recent exchange, Cooper referred to 'XRP as collateral for institutional credit' as a 'killer use case'. This concept could see XRP being used as collateral against stablecoin loans on the XRP Ledger's XLS-65 and XLS-66 lending architecture.
Cooper mentioned that this idea is supported by the emerging XRP Ledger credit models. He also discussed a potential two-pool credit model, where one pool contains XRP as collateral while another provides RLUSD as the loan asset. This would allow institutions to pledge XRP without selling their position, similar to collateral transformation in traditional finance.
However, it's essential to note that this is still an emerging concept and not yet live on mainnet. The native lending amendments are progressing through the XRPL development and governance process. Cooper's comment clarifies a potential end-state where XRP could become productive balance-sheet collateral rather than just an asset held or transferred.
