RLUSD Surges to $2B, Fueling Ripple's Institutional Push
Ripple's RLUSD has reached $2 billion in market capitalization just over two years after its launch in December 2024. The rapid growth of this stablecoin, regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), is notable for its speed and stability.
Vet, an XRP Ledger dUNL validator, acknowledges RLUSD's achievement, describing it as the fastest-growing stablecoin in its category. This milestone highlights the strong position Ripple has established in the increasingly crowded stablecoin market.
Ripple designed RLUSD to maintain a 1:1 value with the U.S. dollar, backed by segregated reserves of cash and cash equivalents that undergo monthly attestations by an independent U.S.-licensed CPA. The combination of regulatory oversight and transparency is crucial as the U.S. moves toward clearer stablecoin rules.
The GENIUS Act aims to establish a federal framework for payment stablecoins, with the Treasury targeting January 18, 2027 for implementation. Greater regulatory clarity could give banks, financial institutions, and major businesses more confidence to adopt compliant dollar-backed digital assets.
