RLUSD Surpasses $2B, Fueling Ripple's Institutional Growth Ambitions
Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has reached a significant milestone, surpassing $2 billion in market capitalization. This rapid expansion is seen as a key factor in Ripple's institutional growth strategy.
The growth of RLUSD since its launch in December 2024 has been impressive, with Vet, an XRP Ledger dUNL validator, acknowledging that the stablecoin has reached this new phase of growth. The NYDFS-regulated structure and transparency of RLUSD's reserves could become increasingly important as the U.S. moves towards clearer stablecoin rules.
The GENIUS Act, which establishes a federal framework for payment stablecoins, is moving towards implementation, with the Treasury targeting January 18, 2027 for the rules to take effect. Greater regulatory clarity could give banks and financial institutions more confidence to adopt compliant dollar-backed digital assets.
RLUSD's expansion could also have a meaningful impact on the XRP Ledger, creating a growing pool of dollar-denominated liquidity on the network. This enhanced stablecoin liquidity could drive activity in payments, trading, collateral, and tokenized assets, giving XRP holders additional ways to access dollar liquidity without necessarily selling their XRP.
