Robinhood Blazes Trail with Ethereum Layer-2 Blockchain for Tokenized Stocks
Roland Quittard and the team at Robinhood are shifting gears once again. The American brokerage has been quietly building its own Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, dubbed Robinhood Chain, with a bold ambition: to bring together tokenized stocks, meme coins, and on-chain financial products within a single ecosystem.
The platform's new infrastructure is built on Arbitrum technology, leveraging fast transactions, low fees, and native compatibility with the entire EVM ecosystem. By using Arbitrum's Orbit technology, Robinhood can deploy sovereign application-specific chains, known as app-chains, while remaining anchored to Ethereum's security. This means Robinhood retains full control over its network's rules without sacrificing interoperability with the broader DeFi landscape.
The goal is to enable the trading of tokenized stocks directly on-chain, 24/7, free from traditional stock market constraints. This positioning targets emerging markets where access to US equities remains limited.
