Hackers gained access to Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev's X account and posted a fake promotion for an unauthorized memecoin called $VLAD. The post quickly drew significant trader interest, driving rapid activity on Robinhood Chain.
The token experienced sharp price movements and elevated trading volume in the short window before Robinhood clarified the situation publicly. Once the company confirmed the hack, the token's momentum shifted as the market adjusted to the verified information.
Ryan Noy, a communications specialist for Robinhood, tweeted that the company is working with X to restore access and remove the post. The company emphasized it maintains no association with any such tokens.
The compromise bypassed technical protocol vulnerabilities in favor of direct social engineering on a widely followed platform.
