Robinhood CEO Backs Tokenized Stocks Amid Escalating Legal Dispute
Robinhood's CEO Vlad Tenev has publicly supported the launch of tokenized stocks on the company's blockchain, Robinhood Chain. This move comes amidst an escalating legal dispute with traditional corporate America over the issue of tokenization without issuers' consent.
The conflict was triggered by a statement from AMC CEO Adam Aron, who attacked the tokenization of securities without issuers' knowledge or approval. In response, Robinhood's Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher rejected the cease-and-desist demands outright and sarcastically offered to teach AMC's lawyers about US securities law.
The market capitalization of tokenized real-world assets on Robinhood Chain has reached $104.4 million, with most of the liquidity concentrated in SPY ($14.0 million) and NVDA ($13.9 million). The recent historic Nasdaq debutant SPACEX ranks third in the on-chain standings.
Tenev's rhetoric has shifted towards institutional pragmatism, focusing on creating a global infrastructure for programmable assets. This move has exposed a systemic contradiction, where traditional corporations warn about the legal risks of unauthorized tracking, but Robinhood is prepared to defend the emerging market.
