Robinhood CEO Seeks AI Revolution in Crypto Markets
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev is pushing for agentic artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the crypto market, aiming to give retail investors the same computing power as institutional ones. Agentic AI takes automated trading to a new level by making decisions based on real-time analysis and learning from mistakes.
Customers of brokerages like Robinhood can already connect AI tools such as Anthropic's Claude or OpenAI's ChatGPT to their accounts, allowing users to give instructions for how they want the AI agent to trade. However, Tenev wants AI agents to be able to do everything humans can, which raises questions about market manipulation and investing.
The growth of agentic AI trading could make crypto markets even wilder, amplifying price swings and reducing liquidity. AI-controlled exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tend to turn over their holdings once a month compared to ones managed by humans, which could lead to higher transaction fees for exchanges like Robinhood.
On the plus side, AI agents can quickly detect and react to price discrepancies, contributing to price stability. They also take some of the emotion out of trading and help investors stick to preset strategies. However, AI can sound confident even while making big mistakes, and it's essential for investors to decide which companies or cryptocurrencies they will invest in.
