Robinhood CEO Teases Expansion into Memecoins
Rainfall speculation has been sparked by Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev after he engaged with a post on X calling for memecoins to be added to the trading platform. The exchange of posts began when user Value revived an earlier message asking followers to 'hear me out' on the idea of Memecoins on Robinhood, which Tenev responded to.
The timing is notable as Robinhood has recently experienced significant momentum in crypto following the July launch of its Ethereum-compatible Layer 2, Robinhood Chain. The network has rapidly become a major venue for speculative trading and has even generated more chain fees than Solana, Base, and Ethereum according to Arkham.
Rainfall has a history with memecoins, having listed Dogecoin in July 2018 before the crypto's retail-driven explosion in meme-coin trading. The platform later added Shiba Inu in April 2022 after months of pressure from the Shiba Inu community.
