Robinhood CEO Tenev's Account Hacked for Fake Memecoin Scam

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was compromised on July 23, 2026. The hackers used it to promote a fake memecoin called VLAD, claiming it was the official mascot of Robinhood Chain and would be listed in the Robinhood app.

The post, which included a contract address starting with 0x92d, falsely stated that VLAD would be available for trading inside the Robinhood app. However, no such message appeared on Robinhood's own company account or Robinhood Crypto.

Rozalinov reported that the fraudulent post went out at about 17:24 UTC and included a contract address beginning 0x92d. It described VLAD as the network’s official mascot and promised an app listing that Robinhood never made. No matching message appeared on Robinhood’s own company account or on Robinhood Crypto, a gap that helped traders catch the scam within minutes.

Robinhood confirmed the breach through its communications account, making clear the post did not come from the company itself. The outlet also pointed to a dashboard from Entropy Advisors showing Robinhood Chain has pulled in more than $700 million in assets across stablecoins, tokenized stocks, and memecoins since it went live on July 1.

The hack is part of a larger pattern where celebrity and executive accounts on X have been hijacked to push fake memecoins during trading frenzies. Robinhood has not said whether the compromise stemmed from a phishing attempt or another method, and no timeline has been given for a security review.
