Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev's X account was hacked in a memecoin scam, with a fake post promoting a token called 'Vladhood' ($VLAD) as the official Robinhood chain mascot. The post claimed that $VLAD would be expanding on the newly launched Robinhood Chain.
The attack is the latest example of the growing trend of memecoins on the Robinhood Chain, which has seen massive growth in recent weeks. According to data from DeFiLlama, the total value locked (TVL) on the chain has soared above $308 million, with daily volumes reaching tens of millions.
The Robinhood Chain is an open, Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 that runs on ETH for gas, and it uses Arbitrum technology to achieve block times of around 100ms. While memecoins are playing a major role in the current on-chain activity and active users, tokenized securities are also growing steadily.
The hack has been confirmed by the official Robinhood team, who stated that they are working with X to restore access and remove the fake post. The incident highlights the increasing importance of security measures for high-profile individuals and companies in the crypto space.
