Robinhood Chain Halted by Outage Amid $1.7 Billion Revenue Surge
Rapid growth has catapulted Robinhood Chain into one of crypto's highest-earning networks, but its success has also brought challenges. On September 4th, the Ethereum layer-2 network experienced a brief outage, halting block production for at least 14 minutes and stalling transactions before activity began recovering.
The disruption came roughly two months after the network's public mainnet launch and highlights the stakes of Robinhood Chain's rapid growth. The network has generated about $23 million in cumulative fees, including roughly $4 million in a recent 24-hour period, according to Entropy Advisors' Tom Wan.
Robinhood Chain's revenue would annualize to roughly $1.7 billion at its current pace, illustrating how quickly the two-month-old network has scaled. The chain is also creating revenue opportunities beyond transaction fees, with WAN estimating that Robinhood could have generated roughly $1.7 million from its share of USDG economics at a 3% annual yield.
The growth of assets held across Robinhood and Bitstamp may also support higher trading revenue, with crypto assets under management rising by about $4 billion on Robinhood and $600 million on Bitstamp.
