Robinhood Chain Surpasses Ethereum in Fees, but Can it Sustain the Momentum?
Roninhood's new blockchain, Robinhood Chain, has surpassed Ethereum in terms of transaction fees over the past 30 days. According to data from DefiLlama, Robinhood Chain brought in $34.4 million in fees, while Ethereum generated $11.3 million during the same period. The surge in fees for Robinhood Chain was largely driven by its users' enthusiasm for meme coins, with one launchpad, Pons, collecting a staggering $96.1 million in user fees.
The majority of these fees came from the final seven days of the 30-day period, coinciding with increased speculative fervor in the crypto market. However, it remains to be seen whether this pace can continue and if Robinhood's stock is worth buying as a result.
While the new blockchain has been successful in generating significant fees, its reliance on meme coins may be short-lived. As the market's euphoric spell wears off, activity on the chain could dry up, potentially affecting Robinhood's revenue.
However, the company's stock looks promising even if the activity on its chain slows down. With a strong foundation in one-stop investing and speculating, Robinhood's new blockchain is seen as an extension of its existing business model. The incremental growth from crypto fees may be significant, but it's not the primary driver of the company's value.
