Robinhood Chain's Uptime Concerns Sparked by 13-Minute Block Halt
The Robinhood Chain, a blockchain designed to support tokenized real-world assets, experienced a 13-minute block production halt on Thursday. The disruption affected approximately 20:53 to 21:06 UTC+8 and left transactions unrecorded for that period. Despite the hiccup, no incident notice was posted on the network's status page, nor did Robinhood offer an explanation for the pause.
The outage is significant because of the chain's design as an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 built on Arbitrum technology, aimed at bridging traditional markets and decentralized finance. As activity on the network has exploded, reaching nearly 8.5 million daily transactions by mid-July, a staggering 38,350% increase from its first week, uptime becomes a crucial requirement.
The incident highlights questions about the reliability of blockchain infrastructure for financial market plumbing, particularly as tokenized stocks face growing debate over investor rights and structure. AMC CEO Adam Aron's criticism of Robinhood's tokens tracking AMC shares adds to concerns about the maturity of such assets.
