Robinhood Crypto Trading Volume Drops 33% in July Amid Market Cool Down
Retail interest in cryptocurrency has cooled down significantly, according to data from The Block. Robinhood's nominal crypto trading volume dropped by 33% in July compared to June and a whopping 62% compared to the same period last year.
The decline was felt across both of Robinhood's trading platforms. Volume executed directly within the app fell to $4.3 billion, down 74% year-over-year, while Bitstamp handled $6.6 billion in volume, a 45% decrease from a year earlier. The figures highlight how quickly retail interest can shift in the crypto market.
The slowdown in trading activity aligns with a broader trend across the industry. Many exchanges have reported lower trading activity in recent months as prices stabilized and volatility declined. For Robinhood, the slowdown poses a challenge to its crypto-focused growth strategy, which has leaned heavily on transaction-based revenue.
