Robinhood Crypto Trading Volume Sees Surprise Jump in August
Robinhood's crypto trading volume rose significantly in August, jumping 61% to $17.5 billion from July's total of $10.9 billion. However, this figure is still 38% below last August's total of $28.1 billion.
The company's notional crypto trading volume, which measures the total dollar value of all crypto assets bought and sold on the platform, also saw a substantial increase in August. Bitstamp, the exchange Robinhood acquired in 2025, contributed the larger share at $10.1 billion, up 53% from July.
The growth in event contracts, Robinhood's prediction market bets, was even more impressive. With 4.7 billion trades in August, this figure is roughly 15 times higher than last year's total of 300 million. Event contracts have become a key revenue source for the company, with $156 million generated in July alone.
Despite these positive numbers, Robinhood shares fell by 0.83% after the release of the data. The company's blockchain, Robinhood Chain, is also growing rapidly, with daily trading volume reaching $1.6 billion on decentralized exchanges as of September 1.
