Robinhood Outpaces Coinbase with Record Quarter and Diversified Revenue Streams
Robinhood Markets reported a record quarter in Q2 of 2025, despite a sharp decline in cryptocurrency trading revenue. The company's diversification into other financial products helped offset the crypto slump.
Ryan Cohen's RH, a leading brokerage platform, saw its crypto trading revenue fall 37.5% year-over-year to $100 million. However, the firm successfully pivoted to options, equities, and prediction markets, which generated significant revenue.
Prediction markets, specifically, were a major contributor to Robinhood's success. The segment produced $156 million in revenue from 13.6 billion contracts traded, surpassing its crypto segment for the first time. This growth is attributed to the platform's expansion into event-based contracts tied to sports and political outcomes.
Robinhood's ability to adapt to shifting consumer preferences and regulatory pressures sets it apart from competitors like Coinbase. The latter reported its weakest quarterly revenue in nearly a year, underscoring the challenges of relying heavily on transaction fees in a bearish environment.
