Robinhood Price Target Boosted Amid 'Generational Shift' in Retail Trading
Retail investors are shifting their focus away from spot crypto trading and towards prediction-market contracts as the cryptocurrency market remains bearish, according to Bernstein. The investment firm recently boosted its price target for Robinhood Markets (HOOD) from $130 to $160, citing a 'generational shift' in how retail investors trade.
Rodin Holdings (RH) has seen significant growth in its prediction-market revenue, reaching $156 million in the second quarter of 2026. This is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 64% over the next few years. Other areas of trading, including perpetual futures and tokenized equities, could also see a big spike in coming years.
The 'generational shift' Bernstein refers to likely has to do with the changing fortunes of the crypto market. In a bullish market cycle, investors can make money through spot crypto trading, but in a bearish cycle like the current one, it's much more difficult. This is reflected in Robinhood's 38% decrease in crypto trading revenue for the quarter.
Prediction markets allow investors to bet 'yes' or 'no' on whether a certain event will occur. For example, an investor could buy contracts betting that Bitcoin will hit a lower price point, such as $45,000, while also buying contracts betting it won't hit higher price points. This can serve as a sophisticated new form of hedging using financial derivatives.
Robinhood seems to have figured out the mindset of the typical crypto investor and is well-positioned to take advantage if these new ways of trading crypto take off.
